I trained at Duke University and spent eight years on a top-tier university medical faculty, but my philosophy of caring for patients arises out of growing up in a loving home environment and taking care of friends and working folks in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for 17 years. I approach every patient as I would a family member. Whatever I would do in the best interest of my mom, dad, grandparents, wife, or children is what I will do for you. I pray every day for the wisdom to do what is best for all my patients.
My decisions about your care are based in the science of surgery and nearly 30 years of surgical practice. You are likely to bring your own research and questions and I welcome your input and knowledge. As a small practice we can often see you the same or next day, and almost always the same week and are very flexible in scheduling to fit your needs.

after a morning of alpine skiing. When I arrived midday at the Emergency Department at St.Luke’s in Ketchum, I was experiencing pain that was nothing less than excruciating. It was my good fortune that Dr. Branum was on call. When initial tests did not clearly identify the problem, Dr. Branum persisted, and determined the cause of the pain: a twisted, and at that point, necrotic section of intestine. He put a surgical team together, and by late that evening, he had removed
the necrotic section and I was resting more or less comfortably in my hospital room.
At all times, Dr. Branum calmly talked to me even though I continued to experience an enormous
amount of pain. He kept my husband and me informed at all times. He was wonderful with the
nursing staff, and they obviously liked and respected him. I recovered very quickly and have not had any recurring problems or issues either with my bowl or with the tidy incision. I am very appreciative of Dr. Branum for his kind, calm, gentle persistence in diagnosing and treating me.
Dr. Branum’s office was also professional, caring and responsive.
I would highly recommend Dr. Branum. He is truly caring and clearly wants what is best for the patient.
