I was a patient with Dr. Branum here in Virginia for a number of years. He did my stomach surgery back in 2014 and I got along wonderful. If anyone every needs his expertise I highly recommend that you contact him. He is a very Caring and understanding surgeon that looks out for your health. I truelly miss him. Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital lost an exceptional surgeon when he left. I wish he was still here. I honestly know that if I ever needed to advise with him that I could call him and talk with him about my condition. With this being said, I wish him the best of luck. Carmen Taylor
Maybe it was because we both love fly fishing but it was much more. Dr. Branum’s calm quiet manner made both me and my wife feel very comfortable about his knowledge and skill as a surgeon. When it came time to operate Dr. Gene Branum was all business and I knew I was in safe hands. In the follow up office visits Dr. Branum explained and answered all my questions, in a way even I can understand. He is truly concerned about my health. Now it’s time to go fishing again.

The gift of great knowledge and skill, paired with a true loving nature - this is what I want and expect from a physician and surgeon. Dr. Branum is this surgeon. He has been a critical piece of my healing journey. From the moment we came to know about my cancer and through the surgeries to follow, Dr. Branum showed true humbleness, integrity and stood by us offering his compassion and understanding. For over thirteen years, he has shared with us both his guidance and his friendship. Thank you isn’t enough, not only for the care he offered to me and my family, but also for his outward reach to our community. Dr. Branum is deeply committed to caring for patients, their families and his own family.

It was my good fortune to meet Dr. Branum, who was the ER doctor on call at WR St. Luke's, when my wife brought me into the ER because of severe abdominal pain. The CT scan showed an obstruction which was from my many past surgery’s, thus many adhesions. I spent 5 days in the hospital while my intestines loosened up. Dr Branum knew precisely what my issues were and felt the best way to approach the obstructed adhesions was to monitor myself, and if I became obstructed again, go to the ER. Sure enough, I became obstructed again. At this point he knew that surgery was needed, but I needed to heal again, so we waited until I was healthy enough for the operation. Dr. Branum’s expertise and care in untangling the adhesions was excellent and successful. His impressive knowledge of gastrointestinal surgery, modern medicine combined with his bedside manner & care are all superior. He has helped me professionally and personally, and I trust him implicitly. We are fortunate to have Dr. Branum in our mountain town paradise of Sun Valley. Thank you Dr. Branum!

Dr. Branum saved my life. I experienced sudden and acute lower abdominal pain this past winter
after a morning of alpine skiing. When I arrived midday at the Emergency Department at St.Luke’s in Ketchum, I was experiencing pain that was nothing less than excruciating. It was my good fortune that Dr. Branum was on call. When initial tests did not clearly identify the problem, Dr. Branum persisted, and determined the cause of the pain: a twisted, and at that point, necrotic section of intestine. He put a surgical team together, and by late that evening, he had removed
the necrotic section and I was resting more or less comfortably in my hospital room.
At all times, Dr. Branum calmly talked to me even though I continued to experience an enormous
amount of pain. He kept my husband and me informed at all times. He was wonderful with the
nursing staff, and they obviously liked and respected him. I recovered very quickly and have not had any recurring problems or issues either with my bowl or with the tidy incision. I am very appreciative of Dr. Branum for his kind, calm, gentle persistence in diagnosing and treating me. Lynne Heidel
I could not be happier or more satisfied with every aspect of my experience with Dr. Branum, Kristin in his office, and any or all other members of his team that I have had the pleasure of coming into contact with. I am in complete awe at the level of effort, care and compassion that I received throughout my whole experience from start to finish. Dr. Branum and his team have bridged the gap between the need and expectations for care and compassion that we used to know from healthcare of the past, and the hole that the new corporate healthcare system provides. I do not believe that my experience could have been any better. A big thanks to all of you at Dr. Branum’s office! Shay Doll
One of the most terrifying experiences you can have is going into a hospital emergency room and finding out you need surgery. Thankfully, Dr. Branum was my surgeon. I was anxious and in a great deal of pain, but he was calm and reassuring. He thoughtfully explained what the surgery would entail and why it was critical that I have it. During my 5-day stay in the hospital, he was always available to answer my questions and thoroughly explain what my recovery would consist of. His manner and knowledge completely set me at ease. We are so fortunate to have Dr. Branum here in our Valley!

I was can’t speak highly enough of the attention, care, outcome of my surgery and experience under the care of Dr. Branum. He was patient, attentive, thorough and forthright. He was a good listener and I appreciated his down to earth and easy to understand explanations of what to expect of the surgical process and the its aftermath. The ongoing follow-up was deeply appreciated. I knew my outcome and long term recovery was important to him as well as me.
Dr. Branum’s office was also professional, caring and responsive.
I would highly recommend Dr. Branum. He is truly caring and clearly wants what is best for the patient. Kevin Cahill
